How a Flooring Job Runs

No surprises on install day. Here's the order things happen.

  1. 1

You call, we talk it through

Tell us the rooms, what's down now and what you're leaning toward. We'll give you a quick rundown of options and what to expect.

  2. 2

We measure and check the subfloor

We come out, measure each room, test slab moisture or check the wood subfloor, and look at doors, stairs and transitions.

  3. 3

    You get a written estimate

Every part of the job is listed separately. If something we found under the floor changes the plan, we show you and explain why.

  4. 4

    Install day

We move furniture, protect the areas we walk through, remove the old floor, prep the subfloor and install. Some materials need a day or two to acclimate in your home first, and we'll tell you ahead of time.

  5. 5

    Walkthrough and cleanup

We walk the floor with you, fix anything you spot, put furniture back and haul away the debris.

About Flooring Humble

Flooring Humble puts down new floors in Humble and nearby places like Atascocita and Crosby. Nearly every job we do is in a house people are living in, so we plan around your schedule, your pets and the rooms you still need while the work goes on.

Our habit is simple. Look under the floor first, explain what we found in plain words, and price it so you can read every line. If a repair makes more sense than a full replacement, or a different product will hold up better, you'll hear that from us before you spend anything.

How We Work

When a floor fails early, the cause is usually below it: a damp slab, a dip, a soft spot. We start there and tell you what we see.

We check what's underneath

Before we price a job, we look at the subfloor. On a concrete slab we test for moisture. On wood we look for soft spots, squeaks and dips. What we find shapes the estimate.

Short answers, not a pitch

Ask us why a floor failed or which product to pick and we'll give you the reason in a sentence or two. If the cheaper option will hold up fine in your room, we'll tell you.

A line for each part of the job

The estimate breaks the work into pieces: the flooring itself, tearing out what's there, getting the subfloor ready, and the thresholds and baseboard at the edges. Read it and you'll know where each dollar goes, and you can cut anything you'd rather skip.

Your home stays livable

We shift furniture out of the way, cover what needs covering and keep dust down when we cut. Old flooring and scraps go out with us at the end of each day.

We point out the small stuff

Door clearance, appliance heights, where the new floor meets the old one. We flag these before install day so nothing gets trimmed or forced at the last minute.

Questions We Get Asked Most

Something not covered here? (346) 253-1583

How much will a new floor cost?

It depends on the room size, the material, what has to come out and the shape of the subfloor. We don't quote blind because a slab that needs leveling or a moisture barrier changes the number. Once we've measured and checked, you get a written estimate with each part listed.

Should I pick luxury vinyl plank or laminate?

For kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms, luxury vinyl plank is the safer pick because it handles standing water better. Laminate feels a bit more solid underfoot and works well in bedrooms and living areas. We'll tell you which one fits each room instead of pushing one for the whole house.

Can the new floor go right on top of what I have now?

It depends on what's down. A click-together floor can often sit on top of flat vinyl or tile that's still bonded well. Carpet has to come up every time, and so does anything loose, cracked or out of level. We'll check it and tell you yes or no, and why.

Why does my slab need a moisture test?

Concrete holds and passes moisture, and in a humid climate that can ruin glue, swell wood and grow mold under the floor. A quick test tells us whether you need a barrier before install. Skipping it is one of the most common reasons a new floor fails early.

How long does installation take?

A single room of vinyl, laminate or carpet is often done in a day. Tile takes longer because of mortar and grout curing, and hardwood may need to sit in your home for a few days to acclimate first. We give you the schedule with the estimate.

Do I need to move my furniture?

No, we move it and put it back. We do ask that you clear small items, breakables and anything inside cabinets or dressers. Electronics and their cords are best handled by you.

Do you offer a warranty on installation?

Yes, there's a 1-year workmanship warranty on all installations. Should a plank lift, a seam open or a tile come loose during that first year because of how we put it down, phone us. We'll come out, look at it and make it right.

What Moves the Price of a New Floor

Two floors with the same square footage can cost very different amounts. The material is only part of it. Here's what actually changes the number.

We measure, check the subfloor and then give you a written estimate broken out line by line. You can get your quote by phone once we've seen the rooms.

Square footage and layout
More rooms, more cuts. Closets, angled walls and lots of doorways add labor even when the total area is small.
The material you pick
Solid hardwood, porcelain tile, luxury vinyl, laminate and carpet all sit at different price points, and so do the grades within each one. Thicker wear layers and harder finishes cost more.
Removing the old floor
Pulling carpet is quick. Breaking up tile set in mortar or scraping glued-down vinyl takes much longer and creates more debris to haul off.
Subfloor condition
A level, dry subfloor keeps cost down. Low spots need leveling compound, high spots need grinding, and a slab that tests high for moisture needs a barrier before most floors go down. Houston-area humidity makes this check matter.
Stairs, trim and doorways
Steps take hand work. Every tread and riser gets measured and cut on its own, so stairs are figured per step. Thresholds, reducers and new baseboard add to the total too.
