Carpet Tile Installation in Humble
Carpet tile is soft underfoot like carpet, but it goes down in squares. Spill juice or wear a path and you replace a few tiles, not the whole room. We prep the floor, set the layout and install it so the seams stay tight.

What carpet tile is and when it makes sense
Carpet tile is carpet cut into squares or planks with a firm backing. It is held down with a release adhesive or a tackifier, so tiles stay put but can be pulled up later. There is no stretching and no tack strip.
It is a good fit for playrooms, game rooms, home offices and garage conversions. Those rooms take spills, rolling chairs and heavy use in one spot. It is a poor fit if you want a deep, plush feel. Carpet tile is thinner and firmer than wall-to-wall. If plush is the goal, our carpet installation page covers that.
Most homes around Humble sit on a concrete slab. Carpet tile goes straight onto a clean, flat slab, which is one reason it works well here. The slab still has to be checked first, and we explain why below.

What the job includes
- 01
Tear-out and haul-off
Old carpet, pad and tack strip come out, along with any vinyl that is already loose. Leftover glue gets scraped off, and the debris leaves with us.
- 02
Slab and subfloor check
We test the slab for moisture and check it for flatness with a straightedge. Carpet tile shows every dip and ridge under it, so this step matters.
- 03
Patching and leveling
Cracks, low spots and old glue ridges get filled or ground down. A flat floor keeps tile edges from lifting or peaking.
- 04
Layout and pattern
We snap center lines and dry-lay a row before any adhesive goes down. You pick the pattern: monolithic, quarter-turn, brick or ashlar. Each one hides seams differently.
- 05
Spare tiles left with you
We leave the extra tiles from the same dye lot. Later, a damaged square can be matched without hunting for a color that is close but not quite right.
Questions about Carpet Tile?
Call(346) 253-1583Signs carpet tile is the right call
Stains keep winning
If you replace carpet every few years because of pets or kids, squares fix that. You swap out the bad spot and keep the rest.
Wear in one path
Traffic lanes from the door to the couch or desk are common. With tile you can rotate or replace the worn squares.
A room that might flood or get wet
Water damage is a real risk on the Gulf Coast. After a leak, carpet tile can be pulled up, the slab dried and the good tiles relaid in many cases.
An office chair that eats carpet
Rolling chairs crush and fray plush carpet fast. Low-pile carpet tile holds up better and rolls easier.
You want carpet without tack strip
Tack strip leaves nail holes in a slab and sharp edges along walls. Glued tile avoids both.
How the install day goes
- 1
Clear and protect
You move small items and valuables. We move standard furniture as agreed on the phone, cover doorways and lay down a path through the rest of your home.
- 2
Tear out and test
Old flooring comes up. We check slab moisture and flatness, then tell you what we found before we go on. If the slab needs more work than expected, you hear it then, with the reason.
- 3
Prep and lay out
We patch and clean the floor, roll on the adhesive and let it tack up. Center lines get marked first, which keeps the partial squares along opposite walls the same width.
- 4
Set, trim and clean up
Tiles go down tight, arrows set for your pattern, and edges are cut to the walls and doorways. We add transitions, sweep, haul off waste and show you the leftover tiles. Most rooms are walkable the same day.
What moves the price
We do not quote a number until we know the room and the floor under it. The price comes down to a few things, and we will tell you which ones apply to your job. You get your quote by phone after we talk it through.
- The tile you choose
- Residential carpet tile ranges from basic loop pile to thicker cut pile with cushion backing. Thicker and cushioned tiles cost more.
- Condition of the slab
- A clean, flat slab needs little prep. Cracks, high spots, old thinset or heavy glue residue add labor and material.
- What comes up first
- Removing old carpet is quick. Removing glued-down vinyl or ceramic tile takes much longer.
- Room shape and pattern
- Square rooms with few cuts go fast. Closets, angled walls and patterns like ashlar add cuts and waste.
Carpet tile questions we hear
Is carpet tile as comfortable as regular carpet?
Not quite. It is firmer and thinner because there is no separate pad. Cushion-backed tiles close some of that gap. If softness is the top priority, wall-to-wall is the better pick.
Will the seams show?
Up close, a little, depending on the tile and pattern. Quarter-turn and ashlar patterns hide seams well. Monolithic looks most like broadloom but shows a bad seam fastest, so a flat floor matters.
How do I replace a damaged tile later?
Pry up a corner with a putty knife and lift the square. The release adhesive stays tacky, so you press in a spare from the same lot. If you would rather we do it, give us a call.
Can it go in a bathroom or laundry room?
We do not recommend it. Standing water and constant humidity work into the backing. Tile flooring or luxury vinyl tile are better choices for wet rooms.
What happens if something goes wrong with the install?
Carpet tile falls under our 1-year workmanship warranty on all installations. That warranty is about how we laid the floor. If a seam pulls apart or an edge curls up because of our install, phone us and we will set it right. Our company is also insured for the time our crew spends on the job.
