Hardwood Flooring in Humble

Solid or engineered hardwood, laid where it will last. First we look at the subfloor and test for moisture. Then we tell you which wood fits your rooms and what drives the price. After that comes a careful install and a clean house.

Real Wood, Put Down the Right Way

Hardwood is a good floor when it's matched to the room and the subfloor. Get that wrong and boards cup, gap or come loose within a year or two. Most of what goes wrong with wood floors starts with moisture or a bad base, not the wood itself.

Most houses around Humble sit on concrete slabs. That matters. Solid hardwood generally needs a wood subfloor, so on a slab we usually point you to engineered hardwood, glued down or floated. If you have a raised floor or plywood over joists, solid boards nailed down are on the table.

If wood isn't the right call for a room, we'll say so. A kitchen with a history of leaks or a laundry room may do better with luxury vinyl plank or tile flooring.

What the Job Includes

Moisture testing

We test the slab or subfloor before anything goes down. If readings are high, we tell you and talk through a vapor barrier or a different product.

Tear-out and haul-off

Whatever covers the floor today comes up first, along with the padding, strips or adhesive under it. It all goes out on our truck. Ceramic tile is slower to break out, so it shows up as its own line on the quote.

Leveling and prep

High spots get ground down and low spots get filled. Wood shows every dip, so this step decides how the floor feels underfoot.

Acclimation

We have the wood brought into your home ahead of the install so it can adjust to the air inside. Skipping this is a common cause of gaps later.

Install and trim

Boards are nailed, glued or floated to suit the product and subfloor. We leave proper expansion gaps, then set baseboard or shoe molding and transitions to the next room.

Cleanup and warranty

Scraps and offcuts leave with us, and the rooms get swept. Before we pack up, we look over the new floor together. All installations come with our 1-year workmanship warranty.

Signs It's Time for New Hardwood

  • Worn-out carpet

Matted traffic paths and stains that won't come out. Many people replace carpet with wood to get a floor that's easier to keep clean.

  • Boards that cup or crown

Edges rising or the middle humping up points to a moisture problem. We find the cause before putting new wood down, or the new floor will do the same thing.

  • Soft or bouncy spots

Give underfoot can mean a failing subfloor or loose boards. We check it during the visit and tell you what it takes to fix.

  • Damage too deep to save

Water-stained, warped or split boards from a past leak usually need to come out. Patching mismatched wood rarely looks right.

  • Mixed floors you want to unify

Three different floors in three connected rooms. One run of hardwood through the main living space ties it together.

How a Hardwood Job Runs

  1. 1

    Phone call and visit

You call, we set a time to come out. We measure, test moisture, look at the subfloor and talk about solid versus engineered.

  2. 2

    Written quote

You get a quote that lists removal, prep, materials and install as separate lines. No vague totals.

  3. 3

    Letting the wood settle

Your boxes of flooring show up before install day and stay stacked in the rooms they're meant for. That gives the boards time to adjust to your indoor air. Each product has its own wait, and we'll tell you yours.

  4. 4

    Install days

We clear the existing floor, prep the base and lay the boards. Furniture moving is something we talk through before we start, so there are no surprises that morning.

  5. 5

    Walkthrough

We go over the finished floor with you, cover care basics and answer questions. If something isn't right, we fix it.

What Moves the Price

Hardwood cost comes down to the wood you pick and what we find under the current floor. We can't give a real number until we've seen the subfloor. Here's what we look at.

Solid or engineered
The wood itself is the biggest swing. Oak usually costs less than hickory or imported species, and wider planks run higher. On engineered boards, a thicker top layer of real wood adds to the price.
Subfloor condition
A flat, dry slab is the easy case. Leveling, moisture barriers or replacing damaged plywood add labor and material.
What comes out first
Carpet comes up fast. Glued-down vinyl or ceramic tile takes longer and costs more to remove and haul off.
Layout and rooms
Open, square rooms go quicker than closets, angles and lots of doorways. Stairs are their own job, covered under stair flooring.

Hardwood Flooring Questions

Something not covered here? (346) 253-1583

Does hardwood work over a concrete slab?

It does, though engineered boards are the usual pick over concrete. Their cross-layered core shifts less than a solid board when humidity changes. Before anything goes down we check the slab for moisture, and if the readings call for it, a vapor barrier goes in first.

Is engineered hardwood real wood?

Yes. The top layer is real hardwood over a plywood or composite core. It looks and feels like solid wood once it's down.

Will Gulf Coast humidity ruin a wood floor?

Not if the house is kept at a steady temperature and the wood is acclimated and installed with the right gaps. Wood does move a little between seasons. Running your AC and avoiding standing water handles most of it.

What happens if something goes wrong after the install?

Every installation comes with our 1-year workmanship warranty. If an install problem shows up in that first year, we come back and make it right. We're also insured while we work in your home.

How long will I be without my floors?

A few rooms usually take a couple of days once the wood has acclimated. Tile removal or heavy leveling adds time. We give you a realistic schedule with your quote.
