Laminate Flooring in Humble
Laminate gives you a wood look that stands up to kids, dogs and daily traffic for less than hardwood. We check the floor underneath first, tell you plainly which product fits each room, and install it so the joints stay tight.

What laminate is and when it makes sense
Laminate is a photo layer of wood or stone over a dense fiberboard core, topped with a hard clear wear layer. The planks click together and float over a foam underlayment. Nothing is nailed or glued to your subfloor.
It is a good pick for living rooms, bedrooms, halls and home offices. It resists scratches better than most hardwood and costs less. The weak spot is water. If water sits on a seam, the core can swell and the edges lift. Newer water-resistant lines handle spills much better, but we still do not put standard laminate in a full bathroom or laundry room.
For a room that gets standing water, our answer is luxury vinyl plank or tile flooring, and we say that up front. Picking the right floor for the room matters more than the brand name.
What our laminate installation includes
- Removal of the old floor
- We pull up carpet and pad, old laminate or vinyl, and haul it away. Tile removal takes more time and makes more dust, so we price it as its own line.
- Slab check and leveling
- Most laminate makers want the floor flat within about 3/16 inch over 10 feet. A long straightedge laid across the slab shows us every hump and dip. Humps get ground down and dips get filled with leveling compound, all before the first plank goes in.
- Moisture barrier and underlayment
- On a concrete slab we lay a vapor barrier so ground moisture does not reach the fiberboard core. Many underlayments have one built in. We match the pad to the plank so the floor sounds solid, not hollow.
- Expansion gaps and door jambs
- Laminate moves with humidity, so we leave a gap at every wall and cabinet base. We undercut door jambs so planks slide under them cleanly instead of being caulked around.
- Finish pieces and cleanup
- The gap at each wall gets hidden under new molding. Where the laminate runs into carpet or tile, we fit a threshold strip so the edge is protected and nobody catches a toe. When the last piece is down, we vacuum and load every offcut into our truck.
Signs it is time for new laminate
Edges that are swollen or peaked
Raised, puffy seams mean water got into the core. That damage does not shrink back, so the boards need replacing.
Gaps opening between planks
Gaps usually point to worn locking joints or a floor laid without enough room to move. A rip-up and reinstall with proper gaps fixes it.
A floor that bounces or clicks
Soft spots and clicking when you walk often mean the slab was never leveled. The planks flex over the dips and the joints wear out.
Worn-through finish in traffic paths
If the pattern has rubbed off by the door or in the kitchen walkway, the wear layer is gone. A product with a higher AC rating will last longer there.
Carpet you are done cleaning
Stained, matted carpet in a busy room is the most common reason people call us about laminate. It is easier to keep clean and works well with pets.
How the job runs
- 1
Measure and walk the rooms
We measure each room, check the slab for flatness and moisture, and look at doorways and transitions. You get a plain answer on what will work and what it will take.
- 2
Let the planks acclimate
The boxes sit in your home for about 48 hours before install. Our humid air makes this step matter, because planks laid cold from a warehouse can shift once they adjust.
- 3
Prep day
Furniture comes out of the room the way we planned it with you. Then the old flooring comes up and the slab gets leveled. Most of the dust and noise happens on this day.
- 4
Lay the floor
We roll out the barrier and underlayment, then click planks in rows with staggered end joints. Most single rooms are done in a day. Our crew is insured, so you are covered while we work in your home.
- 5
Final pieces and a look together
Molding and threshold strips go on last. Once the offcuts are out and the floor is vacuumed, we go room by room with you and check the seams. There is no glue to cure, so you can walk on it right away.

What moves the cost of laminate
Laminate is priced mostly by the square foot, but the planks are only part of it. Prep and removal can swing the total more than the product you pick. We spell out each piece by phone and on site so nothing shows up later.
- Room size and shape
- A big open living room lays quickly. A hallway, a couple of closets and a lot of corners add cuts, and every cut adds labor.
- What comes up first
- Carpet is quick to remove. Glued vinyl or ceramic tile takes much longer and adds disposal.
- Slab condition
- A flat slab needs little work. Dips, cracks or an old patch can mean grinding and leveling compound.
- Product grade
- Thicker planks, higher AC ratings and water-resistant cores cost more. They are worth it in kitchens and entryways, less so in a guest bedroom.
- Trim and stairs
- New baseboards, extra transitions or adding steps changes the scope. Stairs are their own job, covered on our stair flooring page.
Laminate questions we hear
Something not covered here? (346) 253-1583
Can laminate go in my kitchen?
Yes, if you choose a water-resistant laminate and wipe spills up. We leave the proper gap at cabinets and seal around the dishwasher area. For a room that floods or stays wet, vinyl plank is the safer choice.
How is laminate different from vinyl plank?
They look alike but are built differently. A laminate plank sits on pressed wood fiber, while luxury vinyl plank is solid plastic from top to bottom. Laminate tends to feel firmer underfoot and shrugs off scratches. Vinyl wins in wet rooms, and we will say which one suits each of your rooms.
Do you install laminate over existing tile?
Sometimes. If the tile is flat, solid and not too high at doorways, we can float laminate over it and skip demolition. If tiles are loose or the height causes door problems, we take it up.
Can my laminate be sanded and refinished later?
No. The pattern is a printed layer, so sanding would wear right through it. When laminate wears out, it gets replaced. Picking the right wear rating up front is what makes it last.
Is the installation covered?
Yes. Your laminate floor falls under our 1-year workmanship warranty on all installations. Say a joint we laid opens up or a transition we set works loose during that year. We come back out and make it right.
